CIMP Gunung Tahan Trek: 24-30 August 2002


In early April 2002, the Trekking Club of the Canadian International Matriculation Programme made CIMP history by summitting Mount Kinabalu. From August 24th to August 30th, CIMP carried on the tradition by reaching the top of Gunung Tahan, reputed to be Malaysia's toughest mountain trek.

leave by train approx 2000h from KL Sentral for Gua Musang

0500 missed the Merapoh stop; reached Gua Musang.
0630 left for Sungai Relau; arranged for a ride with the
         Railway Station Master:
0730
arrived at Sungai Relau; transfer by 4x4 to Kuala
         Juram and trek to Kem Kor (750 meters)

26/8/02
trek from Kem Kor to Botak
27/8/02
0730 left camp for summit,
0930 made summit; returned to Botak camp;
continued journey to
28/8/02
left Bonsai for Kem Kor (set camp)
29/8/02
0530 leave Kem Kor,
return to Gua Musang,
caught the evening train for KL
30/8/02
supposedly to arrive in KL 0830 approximate; delayed by 2hours

The cost of the trip was approximately RM250—covered the cost for all transportation, guide and park fees. Food was an additional expense and had to be supplied and carried by each trekker.
