My First Three Attempts on Gunung Nuang
Date: --
Destination: Gunung Nuang, (Selangor)
Gunung
Nuang
'Tis the mount that caused the most pain;
Four times have I walked the paths of Nuang,
'fore
taming that which was my great ambition,
Only once, on my fourth attempt, did I summit
the peak
Behind
others less heroic on journeys less epic.
Three times did I need endure the bleak
For on three occasions did I torrential rains meet.
On
my first attempt, seven did I gather.
Together we marched to conquer!
But
the rain, the rain
simply washed away
my one aim.
And Nuang inflict upon me great pain
when I, with pulled
hamstring, with a slow limp
retreated by forced defeat.
On my second
attempt, an army did I gather
But again, the rain, the
rain
forced me away.
In darkest night, an ancient tree
bowed and barred the way.
"Fight on!" I say, but civilisied
hands held no weapons
.
Nuang with Nature's aid, my friends with proud horns
unvealed. And one became
Lord of the Flies,
who with thunderous voice made unreasonable thoughts unyielding demands.
Others,
whose minds yet fit for discourse, took unwitting sides;
Pressure mounted, both unrelenting.
To end this misguided trend I, again,
retreated
by forced defeat.
On
my third attempt,
in darkest night I
lost my way
But virtuous patience won me the way
when till early morn I waited 'fore I journeyed on.
When near I to set
my upon my brow my crown of great ambition,
Nuang sent one guardian Don too many.
My ambition before me, he revealed a future I
did not want to see.
"A
pile a garbage you'll see at the peak."
These words kept ringing
in my ears. Yet I pushed on
till my crown was but a stone's throw away.
Then, burdened
my heart became.
And I turned
my back and walked down in silent rage.
Then the rain,
O, the rain came and
caused me even more pain:
The ground salivated and gaped and soon swallowed me.
I struggled and out of the belly I emerged
victorious I seem, but now I carry a hurt
which seem everlasting.
In pouring rain I
retreated, again, by forced defeat.
