For
the Third Time in One Year Dunno what got into us ~ or me at least. The Trekking Club at this time weren't as active as before, so there were just six of us. I tried so hard to be excited, and it was difficult. I really thought it was ridiculous to have six people in two cars spending over an hour on the road -- from Petaling Jaya all the way to Rembau -- just to trek up the mountain that takes just about an hour. It takes us so much longer to drive there than to trek! I suggested that we should turn back and go up Klang Gates instead, or maybe just drive to Nuang. I tried to convince them, but, noooooo, they had to keep to schedule and trek Datuk. I've never seen people so bent on following schedules even when it was economically unsound. Anyway, we so found ourselves at the foothill. There was anything else to do but to hike up. So I headed to the mountian for the third time in 12 months. I tried to pay attention to the trek and it's surroundings. I hoped to see strange creatures like I often do on Nuang. Unfortunately, except for a three eight-legged beauties, nothing in particular caught my attention. As I walked, I pondered how I would have felt if there weren't so few trekkers. I suppose I could have felt better. But nothing was going to change. Wishes never come true for me. I walked and walked till I reached the peak. And as i stood on the huge granite boulders that form the peak, peering down into the valley and the horizon beyond, my thoughts circled around the idea that trekking up Datuk that morning was was even more torturous than crawling up Nuang repeatedly. The only consoling factor, for me at least, was the strong wind, that seem to sweep those ill thoughts away. I wonder if I'll ever trek this mountain again. Journal
